Baremetrics Recover alternatives
Last reviewed 2026-10-07
Recover is Baremetrics' failed-payment product. The thing most comparisons get wrong is that it is an add-on: you cannot buy it alone. This page gives the real total, reads their own published benchmark data honestly — including the number that cuts against them — and says where it is the right purchase.
What it costs, including the part people forget
Payment Recovery is listed as a separate add-on at $129 a month. It is not bundled into any base tier, so the real price is a plan plus the add-on.
| Base plan | From | Scope | With Recover |
|---|---|---|---|
| Launch | $75/mo | $0–360K ARR, single integration | $204/mo |
| Growth | $255/mo | $360K–3.6M ARR, two integrations | $384/mo |
| Scale | $1,152/mo | $3.6M+ ARR, unlimited integrations | $1,281/mo |
Prices read from baremetrics.com/pricing on 7 October 2026. The page advertises a 35% annual discount, and plans are described as starting at these amounts, so your quote may be higher. Cancellation Insights is sold as a second $129/mo add-on.
Compare that honestly: the cheapest route to Recover is $204 a month, which is in the same territory as Churnkey's Starter tier at $250 billed yearly. The difference is what else comes with it — metrics and forecasting on one side, cancel flows on the other.
What their own data says
Baremetrics publishes a benchmark page built from 119 US B2B SaaS companies using Recover during May 2026, 94% of them on Stripe. It is marketing material, and it is also the most concrete public data anyone in this category has put out, so it is worth reading carefully rather than dismissing.
- The sample collectively recovered $1,236,764 in a single month.
- Median attempted recovery rate: 12.7%.
- Median return on the Baremetrics subscription that month: 808%.
- 95% of the sample cleared 100% ROI within month one.
The 12.7% is the number to sit with, and we think it is to their credit that they published it. It means that with a paid recovery tool running, roughly seven out of eight attempted recoveries in a given month still did not land. Anyone selling you failed-payment recovery as a solved problem is overselling, including anyone selling you a free audit of it.
The selection bias runs one way and it is worth naming. Every company in that sample had already decided failed payments were a problem worth paying to fix. Businesses losing a rounding error never became customers, so they are not in the average. Read the ROI figures as what the tool does for companies with a real problem, not as what it would do for you.
When Baremetrics is the better choice
- You want subscription metrics as the main product. MRR, churn, LTV and forecasting are what Baremetrics is, and Recover is a bolt-on to a dashboard you would be opening anyway.
- You are already a Baremetrics customer. The marginal decision is $129 a month on top of a bill you already pay, which is a much easier case than a new $250 subscription.
- You want recovery and cancellation insight from the same place, with one integration and one invoice.
- You value a vendor that publishes its median outcomes rather than only its best ones.
If you do not want the metrics product, you are paying $75 a month minimum for a dashboard you did not ask for in order to reach the $129 add-on you did. That is the case where another tool, or none, makes more sense.
The alternatives, honestly
| Option | Cost | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe's built-in recovery | Included in Stripe Billing | Always, and first. Smart Retries and failed-payment emails cost nothing extra. |
| Baremetrics Recover | From $204/mo including a base plan | You want metrics and recovery from one vendor. |
| Churnkey | From $250/mo billed yearly | Voluntary churn is the bigger problem and you need cancel flows. |
| A Cardnudge audit | Free | You want the size of the problem before you commit to a monthly bill. |
Our audit overlaps with exactly one thing Baremetrics does: telling you how much you lost. It does it once, for free, read-only, without an account, and it splits the loss by decline family so you can see whether the fix is new cards or better retry timing. It does not retry, does not email, and does not track your MRR over time. For that you want a real metrics product, and Baremetrics is a good one.
Questions people ask
- How much does Baremetrics Recover cost?
- It is a $129/month add-on and cannot be bought on its own. With the cheapest base plan at $75/month, the total starts at $204/month. Read from baremetrics.com/pricing on 7 October 2026, where a 35% annual discount is also advertised.
- Is Recover included in a Baremetrics plan?
- No. On the pricing page it is listed as a separate add-on alongside Cancellation Insights, which is also $129/month. No base tier includes either.
- What recovery rate should I expect from a dunning tool?
- Baremetrics publishes a median attempted recovery rate of 12.7% across 119 of its own US B2B SaaS customers in May 2026. Treat that as an honest order of magnitude from a vendor sample, not a guarantee, and note that it means most attempted recoveries in a given month do not succeed.
- Do I need a paid tool to see how much I lose to failed payments?
- No. Stripe's revenue recovery analytics already report failure and recovery rates, and our free audit gives you a twelve-month total split by decline family. Paid tools earn their fee by acting on the problem, not by measuring it.
